Oak tables in light, neutral and dark shades
When you have an oak table made by us, the wood is specially selected to give your table just the right natural look.
We work on the principle that you should get something special when you buy a table from us. Buying one of our oak plank tables should be an experience, and we try to achieve this by including you in the whole process.
This means that, among other things, you get to choose your planks, and you also choose which surface treatment your table will have.
You can read more in general about our plank table here or see the new 4-plank table in oak here.
Before the oak plank table is manufactured
The course starts by us going out into the forest and choosing the most promising trees. Then the selected oak trees are felled, and before they become a tabletop, they are driven through a thorough drying process – first outside, then in the drying oven. This process is done to ensure that the table does not split when it acclimatizes to your home.
Only the best or most special planks are selected to become countertops. Here you can participate in the selection of the planks we need for your oak table. Our planks all have different expressions.
The process for oak plank tables
When your tabletop in oak designed and manufactured, you have the opportunity to determine how the surface treatment of the table should be. We have several different treatment methods – we primarily use oil treatments to give the tables the color you want.

The oak tree is the Tree of the Danes
Oak is a popular material for several reasons. It is a beautiful wood with a characteristic golden color and distinct variful grains, and its grace is highlighted and amplified only as time passes and the tree works. In addition, it is an incredibly strong and durable wood species. It takes a lot for oak to break, which is why it is very suitable for tables and other furniture.
But it is not only the good qualities of the wood species that make it so beloved. The oak tree has a very special significance in Denmark, and the Danes have benefited from the tree since time immemorial.
There have been oak trees in Denmark since 7000 f.kr, and Denmark's oldest tree is oak named King's Own. The tree is between 1500 and 1800 years old and at its old age is the oldest living creature in the country. In 2000, denmark's national tree was also voted to have stood in the shade of the beech tree for many years.
The oak tree has had a major impact on our society
Over the years, the oak tree has helped to form the framework around our society. In the old days, oak was used as timber for the construction of houses and warships, because even at that time its good qualities were understood and recognized. In fact, the oaks were then close to extinction in Denmark due to over-exploitation, because oak was such a popular building material.
Fortunately, the Danes were made aware of the distress of the oak trees, and efforts were made to grow more trees so that we would not run out of oak. What the Danes did not know was that wood would be replaced even stronger building materials such as bricks and concrete, and therefore today there is a healthy population of oak trees in the country, although trees are regularly felled for commercial use.
However, oak is still a popular raw material and is still used today for flooring, fencing, barrels, chests and not least furniture and decorative items. So when we at Kaerbygaard work hard to preserve the original expression of the wood, it's because we want to honor its history and heritage.
At Kaerbygaard we have various carpenters on staff, including furniture, machine and building carpenters. Our skilled staff means that we can handle all design tasks, whether you want a simple or extraordinary plank table. Please contact us for a no-obligation chat.
