Maintenance

With proper care, your plank table will last for generations and only become more beautiful over time.

Care Guide

Oiling

Oil your table twice a year – or more often if needed. We include oil with your table so you are ready from day one. Over time as the plank table is used, it may need an oil treatment. Once or twice a year, apply oil with a cloth and wipe the table. After 20 min. remove the excess oil.

Daily cleaning

Wipe the table with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid standing water and never use harsh cleaning agents. Solid wood often just needs to be treated with the right oil, so it requires no other maintenance.

Avoid direct heat

Always use trivets under hot pots and pans. Direct heat can leave marks in the wood. Never place hot items directly on the table surface.

Stains and scratches

Minor stains and scratches can be sanded away with fine sandpaper (grit 180-220) and then oiled. Solid wood can always be repaired – that is one of the great advantages of real wood furniture.

Sunlight

Avoid prolonged direct sunlight as it can bleach and change the colour of the wood. Use curtains or blinds to protect your table.

Climate and humidity

Wood is a living material that reacts to climate. Avoid placing the table close to radiators or in rooms with very low humidity. A humidity of 40-60% is ideal.

Step-by-step Oiling Guide

Follow these simple steps to keep your plank table looking its best.

1

Clean the table surface thoroughly with a damp cloth and let it dry completely.

2

Sand lightly with fine sandpaper (grit 180-220) in the direction of the grain if needed.

3

Remove all dust with a dry cloth.

4

Apply a thin, even layer of oil with a clean cloth or brush.

5

Let the oil absorb for 15-20 minutes.

6

Wipe off excess oil with a clean, dry cloth.

7

Let the table dry for at least 8 hours before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I oil my table?

We recommend oiling your table twice a year. If the table is used frequently, it may be necessary to oil more often. You can tell if the table needs oil by dripping a little water on the surface – if the water soaks in instead of beading up, it is time for oil.

Which oil should I use?

We include the right oil with your table. If you need more, contact us and we will happily send a new bottle. We exclusively use natural oils that are food-safe.

Can scratches be repaired?

Yes! One of the great advantages of solid wood is that it can always be repaired. Minor scratches and stains can be sanded away with fine sandpaper (grit 180-220) and then oiled. For deeper scratches, we recommend contacting us.

What do I do if there is a stain?

Wipe up the stain as quickly as possible with a dry cloth. If the stain has set, you can lightly sand with fine sandpaper and then oil. Solid wood is a living material, and minor marks add character over time.

How do I maintain a chair?

Often it requires no other maintenance than a damp cloth. Periodically, however, it is a good idea to tighten the legs.

How do I maintain a carpenter kitchen?

A carpenter kitchen in wood is cared for like a regular wooden table. Give it a periodic wipe with a damp cloth, and once or twice a year an oil treatment.
